One block long; northeast from Main Street to South Street.

Red Brick.

Condition: Good.

Tim Tielman: THE GROOVIEST, MOST BEAUTIFUL, STREET IN WESTERN NEW YORK is Washington Street in the tiny village of Cattaraugus.

I got a start when I happened upon it on a holiday foliage-and-architecture ramble. The paving is vitrified brick, with each brick grooved into three even sections.

Washington and Main streets in village are both sloping, and the bricks are laid parallel to travel direction, which I've never seen.

I give Washington higher marks because its dimensions almost feel like European square (it is a shame you can't just pull up a chair in middle of it all and just chill), with buildings lining and terminating views.
